Chelsea goalkeeper puts Real Madrid on red alert

Thibaut Courtois has revealed contract talks with Chelsea are on hold until the summer.

The Belgium international turned down a new contract from Chelsea in May and there has been no progress since then.

Courtois’ current deal is due to expire at the end of next season and the 25-year-old has now revealed no further talks will take place until the summer.

“There will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks [about a new deal],” The Daily Mirror quote Courtois as saying at Chelsea’s pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“The thing for me, the most important thing, is to perform well for myself and the team.

“Regarding my contract, that’s the thing where Chelsea must deal with agent. I don’t think there have been any new developments.”

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for Courtois in the past and the defending European champions may be in for a new goalkeeper at the end of the season given Keylor Navas’ fitness problems this term.

With Courtois unwilling to sign a new deal until next year, Madrid may monitor his situation closely with a view to firming up their interest in the summer.

Since the start of last season, only David De Gea has kept as many clean sheets as Courtois in the Premier League (both 22).
