Lukaku’s form concerns Manchester United boss

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has conceded star striker Romelu Lukaku is struggling for form after the Belgian drew blank against Juventus.

Lukaku has failed to score in his last eight matches for United and was particularly poor in their 1-0 defeat to Juventus on Wednesday night.

The Belgium international was once described as an ‘untouchable’ member of Mourinho’s squad and the United manager is backing his No.9 to rediscover his best form.

“No criticism at all, a complete understanding the player is a fantastic pro that wants to give everything,” Mourinho told Sky Sports when asked about Lukaku’s performance.

“But I have to agree his moment is not sweet, not just with the goals he is not scoring but in his confidence, movement, touch, he is not linking the game well with the team – but he’s our striker and he’s a good striker and a striker we believe in.

“Could I play Rashford there? But then I don’t have a winger because in this moment we are in this difficult situation.

“He (Lukaku) is a hard-working guy, is a good professional, but one day the goal will arrive and the confidence will be back.”

Lukaku will line-up against former club Everton on Sunday, a club he has only netted one goal against in four appearances.

The 25-year-old called on United’s attackers to start games faster on the eve of their midweek defeat to Juventus.

United have failed to score a first half goal in their last five outings and didn’t manage it the last time they played Everton.
