Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has moved to within four assists of equalling Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a Premier League campaign.
The German international registered his 16th assist of the league campaign in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Monday evening and still has 19 games to go.
Ozil divided opinion among fans following his staggering £42.4m move from Real Madrid in 2013, but the 27-year-old has now played a direct hand in 19 goals in his last 18 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal (14 assists + 5 goals) and is on course to shatter Henry’s record, which has stood since the 2002/03 campaign.
The 27-year-old has also now registered at least seven more assists than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season and also at least 17 more chances than anyone else (80). His performances have also been good enough to move him up the rankings to make him the second highest rated player in the Premier League (7.86), behind Riyad Mahrez (8.26).
