Sanchez expected more following Manchester United move
Alexis Sanchez has conceded he thought he would perform better at Manchester United.
The Chile international joined United from Arsenal in a sensational deal in January but things haven’t gone as planned.
Sanchez’s early struggles have already been likened to a previous incumbent of the United No.7 shirt, Angel Di Maria.
The former Real Madrid forward only spent a season at Old Trafford before moving on and there are already fears of a similar fate for Sanchez.
Speaking for the first time since completing his move to United, Sanchez concedes that his poor form even led him to question his availability for Chile during the current international break.
“Seeing as I demand a lot of myself, I expected something better,” The Daily Mirror quote Sanchez as saying.
“After my arrival at United, it was hard to change everything very quickly. I even hesitated to come here [to Sweden, with the national team].
“I had asked permission to miss these games and stay in England, but then I thought better and spoke with Claudio [Bravo] and told him that we should all be united.
“The change of club was something that was very abrupt – it was the first time I’ve changed clubs in January – but many things have happened in my life that are difficult.”
Sanchez was only named on the bench for United’s 2-0 win over Brighton in the FA Cup last weekend and was an unused substitute alongside fellow struggler Paul Pogba.
The 29-year-old has only scored one goal in his first 10 appearances for United and hasn't even assisted a team-mate in his last five matches.
In 2018, no United player has completed more dribbles than Sanchez (36), nor have they created more goalscoring opportunities (22).
