Manchester City wonderkid set to sign new long-term deal
Manchester City have made a major breakthrough in their attempts to secure Phil Foden’s long-term future, claims The Daily Telegraph.
Foden has entered the final two years of his existing City deal and Borussia Dortmund are extremely keen on the 18-year-old.
Dortmund prised Jadon Sancho away from City in 2017 and want to hoover up the best young English talent, including Foden.
However, City have made a decisive breakthrough in talks with Foden and now the teenager is set to sign a new six-year deal running until June 2024.
City have identified Foden as David Silva’s long-term successor and securing his future will go down as another major step forward in the club’s development.
For all of City’s success under Pep Guardiola, the fact Foden has not featured as much as hoped is a slight black mark against the Spaniard.
Foden is yet to start a Premier League game under Guardiola and has instead been limited to 11 appearances as a substitute.
The City teen did start two Champions League matches last season but has only afforded three minutes of playing time in this season’s competition.
