Paris Saint-Germain may as well already be presented with their fourth Ligue 1 title in a row. Laurent Blanc’s side remain the only team across Europe’s top five leagues this season and their 5-1 thrashing over Angers at the weekend maintained their 21-point advantage over second place Monaco with 16 games remaining.
Indispensible to their unblemished start to the campaign has been Angel di Maria. The Argentina international’s torturous 12 months at Manchester United is now well behind the former Real Madrid star. Di Maria has been in irresistible form for the Parisian outfit this season and he was again on hand to help Blanc’s men record their 12th straight win in all competitions in Saturday’s encounter with surprise package Angers.
Di Maria’s brace took him to eight league goals for the season, which is already his best haul in a league campaign over the last five campaigns. Di Maria is currently the third highest rated player across Europe’s top five leagues (8.18), but even his latest performance wasn’t enough to garner the highest rating across the action in Ligue 1 at the weekend.
That right was in fact reserved for his PSG teammate, Blaise Matuidi. The France international registered more assists in 90 minutes against Angers (3) than he had managed in his previous 13 league appearances combined. Matuidi wasn’t only a creative outlet, but he was also diligent in his defensive duties. Indeed, he won more tackles (4) than any other PSG player on display at the Parc des Princes and successfully made as many interceptions (4) to garner a WhoScored rating of 9.37.
