West Brom step up interest in Chelsea veteran

West Brom manager Tony Pulls will step up his pursuit of Chelsea captain John Terry when he meets with the club’s Chinese owners to thrash out their transfer plans for the summer, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Terry will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after more than two decades at the club after the Premier League champions opted against extending his stay.

The 36-year-old has barely featured for Chelsea this season after dropping down the pecking order under Antonio Conte but will still have his fair share of suitors in the summer from England and in China.

Pulls is keen to offer the former England captain a chance to continue his illustrious career at West Brom next season but Terry revealed earlier this week that retirement is still an option this summer.

Terry is only on £50,000-a-week at Chelsea after taking a significant pay cut to remain at Stamford Bridge last summer and that would be well within West Brom’s means given they currently pay the likes of Nacer Chadli, Jonny Evans and Salomon Rondon £75,000-a-week.

The experienced defender scored his first league goal of the season in Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Watford on Monday night, which means he has now scored in each of the last 17 Premier League campaigns.
