Tottenham star Mousa Dembele is waiting to find out whether he will be charged for a physical altercation with Diego Costa during their 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Monday evening.
Dembele, 28, was caught on camera moving his hands toward Costa’s eyes before appearing to pressing them into his eye in what many have cited as an eye gouge.
Referee Mark Clattenburg didn’t pick up this altercation during the match and Dembele is now expected to be one of several Tottenham players pinged retrospectively by the Football Association.
However, while Erik Lamela may be handed a more routine ban after he stamped on Cesc Fabregas’ hand, Dembele is reportedly looking at a 10-game ban, which was the same punishment handed out to Luis Suarez when he bit Branislav Ivanovic in 2013.
The Belgium has been one of Spurs’ best players this season and his absence would serve a real blow to their chances of starving off Arsenal into second place in the final two games of the season.
In fact, of players to have attempted at least 50 dribbles this season, no player has a better dribble success rate than Dembele across Europe’s top five leagues this season (92.2%).
