Barcelona defender reveals offer from Turkey

Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu has revealed he turned down an offer from Besiktas this summer to fight for his place in Luis Enrique’s side.

Mathieu, 32, has struggled to establish himself in the Barcelona first-team since joining from Valencia in 2014 and has been linked with a move away as a result.

The former France international did have an offer on the table from Besiktas before he turned that down and the Turkish champions signed his teammate Adriano.

“There was some talks a few weeks ago [with Besiktas] but I told the president and [sporting director] Robert that I didn’t want to leave Barca,” Mathieu told AS.

Barcelona have never lost a league game that Mathieu has not started in during the last two seasons, compared to a win ratio of just 69.6% with him in the starting XI.
