Real Madrid have announced Marcelo has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2022.
Marcelo has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world since joining Madrid from Brazilian side Fluminense in 2007 and his performances have only improved in the last few years.
The 29-year-old, who was handed a two-match ban by La Liga on Wednesday, still has three years left on his previous deal but Madrid have moved to secure his best remaining years.
Madrid will hope a press conference to officially announce Marcelo’s new contract on Thursday at the Bernabeu, a day after their Champions League encounter with APOEL Nicosia.
Since the start of last season, Marcelo has registered more assists than any other defender in Europe’s top five leagues (11).
