Chelsea midfielder signs for Napoli

Chelsea have confirmed out of favour midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has joined Napoli on a season-long loan deal.

Napoli have moved for the France international after talks between Chelsea and their Serie A rivals AC Milan collapsed.

Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in bringing Bakayoko back to France but Chelsea did not receive a single attractive offer.

Chelsea were hoping to offload Bakayoko permanently this summer or at least include an obligation to buy with another loan move.

However, with time running out in the transfer window Frank Lampard's side have sanctioned a straightforward loan move.

Bakayoko is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and has spent the last two years out on loan, first at Milan and then former club Monaco last season.

The 26-year-old cost Chelsea £40m from Monaco four years ago, making him the club's second most expensive signing of all-time at the time.

However, Bakayoko has managed just 24 league starts for Chelsea since then and in that time he picked up as many cards as he did manage goal involvements (4).
