Chelsea will end Andreas Christensen’s loan spell at Gladbach prematurely and promote him into their first-team next season, according to The Daily Mirror.
Christensen, 19, joined Gladbach on a two-year loan deal last summer after penning a new long-term deal keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2020, although he had been keen to make the switch to Andre Schubert’s side permanently.
However, with John Terry on the way out and Chelsea keen to make use of their expensively assembled academy, Christensen will be give a crack at making it in the Chelsea first-team next season, despite the fact they have no manager in place beyond the end of the current campaign.
The teenager has emerged as one of the brightest players in the Bundesliga this season and Gladbach were understandably looking to keep the Denmark international beyond his loan spell.
Since the start of the season no Gladbach player has completed more interceptions in the league than Christensen (61), who also boosts the best pass success rate of any teammate to have made at least five league starts (87.3%).
