Nice chase PSG goalkeeper

Surprise Ligue 1 leaders Nice are looking to bolster their title charge with the signing of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, their president has revealed.

Sirigu was demoted to third choice goalkeeper at PSG over the summer following the return of Alphonse Areola from his loan spell with Villarreal, with Kevin Trapp also above the experienced Italy international in the pecking order.

Rather than wait for the odd appearance with PSG, Sirigu opted for a loan move to Sevilla at the start of the season, but that hasn’t worked out well and Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has confirmed an interest in the 29-year-old.

In an interview with Tuttomercatoweb, Rivere said Nice ‘like Sirigu’ but that the club have not yet ‘discussed the practicality’ of the transfer with PSG.

“Our attention is completely focused on Ligue 1 and the club’s upcoming encounters. After that, we will see…”

Nice have taken an unlikely three-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 after 13 matches having won 10 of those games, losing just one. Their current No.1 goalkeeper, Yoan Cardinale, has kept six clean sheets thus far, only Marseille goalkeeper Yohann Pele has kept more (7)

Sirigu has only made two league appearances since joining Sevilla over the summer and hasn’t featured since being sent off against Athletic Club at the end of September.
