Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has conceded Harry Kane’s season could be over after suffering another ankle injury.
Kane hobbled off Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final after coming off worse in a challenge with England team-mate Fabian Delph.
The England captain was unable to apply pressure on his foot as he limped down the tunnel aided by Tottenham’s medical team and Pochettino is expecting the worse.
“It’s a worry for us,” BBC Sport quote Pochettino as saying after Tuesday’s win. “We are going to miss him – maybe for the rest of the season. We hope it is not a big issue but there is not to much time to recover.
“He twisted his ankle so we will see how it reacts in a few hours. We need to check but it looks like it is the same ankle and similar injury. It is very sad and very disappointing.”
Kane has already missed two months of the season with ankle ligament damage to the same foot and his absence for the remainder of the season would be a huge blow for Tottenham.
Tottenham carry a slender 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with City and are only one point clear of fifth place Arsenal in the Premier League.
Missing the rest of the season would also mean Kane would fail to reach 20 league goals in a single campaign for the first time since 2013/14.
