Atletico Madrid offer Partey to Liverpool in shock swap deal proposal

Atletico Madrid have offered Thomas Partey to Liverpool in exchange for versatile midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, claims The Sun.

Partey has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks after emerging as a top transfer target for Arsenal.

The Ghana international has a €50m release clause in his existing Atletico contract and is reportedly hopeful of securing a Premier League switch.

Atletico were willing to double Partey's current £65,000-a-week salary in order to fend off interest from the likes of Arsenal but his future at the club has taken a fresh twist.

Partey was outstanding in both legs of Atletico's Champions League last-16 victory over Liverpool in March and has now been offered to Jurgen Klopp's side.

Diego Simeone's side have tabled the shock proposal in an attempt to prise former Arsenal midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain from Anfield.

The England international has made a positive impact since swapping Arsenal for Liverpool in 2017 but has failed to nail down a regular starting berth under Klopp.

Atletico signed Kieran Tripper from Tottenham in a simialrly surprise deal last summer and are now looking to add another England international to their books.

The 26-year-old has only managed 13 league starts for Liverpool this season and reserved his best performances in Europe.

In fact, Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored as many goals in five Champions League appearances as he has managed in 21 Premier League appearances this season (3).
