Newcastle are weighing up a surprise move to bring Andy Carroll back to St. James’ Park this month, claims The Daily Mirror.
Carroll left Newcastle to join Liverpool in 2011 for a then club-record £35m deal but the 28-year-old’s career has stagnated since then.
Staying fit has been Carroll's biggest concern since leaving Newcastle, illustrated by the fact he has only managed to start at least 15 league games in a single-season on one occasion since joining West Ham on a permanent deal in the summer of 2013.
Carroll has not featured for West Ham so far this season and is currently recovering from injury, but Rafa Benitez’s side are pondering a sensational deal to bring the Geordie back to his boyhood club.
The Newcastle head coach has called for more signings before the transfer window closes at the end of the month and is eyeing a potential loan deal for the £130,000-a-week West Ham striker.
Since August 2013, Carroll has only started 33.8% of West Ham’s Premier League matches (52/154). Despite that, Carroll has still scored the most league goals for the Hammers in that period (23).
