Newcastle to rival Ajax for out of favour Spurs forward
Newcastle are prepared to rival Ajax in the race to sign out of favour Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn this month, reports 90Min.
The Dutchman is tipped to leave Spurs and return to the Netherlands in January, with Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax exploring the possibility of adding the forward to the ranks.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte hasn't been sold on Bergwijn following his appointment in November having made just four appearances under the Italian.
However, Ajax won't have a straight shot at the 24-year-old, with Newcastle believed to be pondering a move for Bergwijn.
The Magpies are expected to spend big this month in order to bring in players capable of helping the side away from the relegation zone.
Kieran Trippier has joined from Atletico Madrid, and made his debut in Newcastle's 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Cambridge at the weekend, and he is the first of what is expected to be many new arrivals through the St. James' Park door.
With Callum Wilson sidelined for the next couple of months, Newcastle need to invest in their attack with Bergwijn one of a number of forward targets.
Anthony Martial, Chris Wood and Divock Origi of Manchester United, Burnley and Liverpool, respectively, have also been linked with a January move to Newcastle.
