Tottenham defender talks up Bale return

Ben Davies says he would welcome Wales teammate Gareth Bale back at Tottenham.

Bale has been targeted by Spanish media all season and his future at Real Madrid has been thrown into further doubt since Zinedine Zidane’s return.

The Wales international has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the past but the Red Devils are not believed to be interested at this moment in time.

A return to Tottenham has also been mooted throughout the campaign, though it would require a stunning move for the Premier League side to afford Bale’s wages.

Tottenham creator Christian Eriksen is a reported Madrid target and it has even been suggested the Spanish side would consider a swap dealing involving Bale.

Davies, who is currently on international duty with Bale, has defended the 29-year-old and insisted he would take him back at Tottenham with open arms.

“He’s come under a bit of flak at Madrid recently, but for Wales he’s always been brilliant,” The Daily Mirror quote Davies as saying.

“I’m always going to say it’s unfair, he is one of the best players in the world, we see it every day in training.

“I’d definitely have him at Tottenham. But I don’t know how likely that is.”

Bale has only started 17 league games this season after being frozen out by former manager Santiago Solari and struggles with injury.

The Madrid No.11 did start and score in Zidane’s first game back at the club before the international break but has only played a direct hand in 10 goals in the league this term (eight goals, two assists).
