Barcelona winger Pedro is due in London to undergo his Chelsea medical on Wednesday, capping off a remarkable 24 hours that has seen the Premier League champions hi-jack Manchester United’s attempts to sign the winger, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The Premier League champions have endured their worst start to a league campaign since 1998 and have been expected to flex their financial muscle in the remaining two weeks of the transfer window.
Pedro, 28, has been heavily linked with a move to United this summer and had reportedly even agreed personal terms with Louis van Gaal’s side, but now seems to have changed his first preference with a move to Chelsea now imminent.
Chelsea could have signed the Barcelona winger in January, but instead opted to buy Juan Cuadrado, who has failed to make any impact since joining from Fiorentina.
Pedro has largely played second fiddle to a glittering array of forward talent that has swept through the doors at the Nou Camp since his emergence in 2008. Since then, only Lionel Messi (257) has scored more goals than Pedro (58) for Barcelona in La Liga.
