Inter captain Mauro Icardi will be rewarded with a new contract that will include a €110m (£100.7m) release clause, reports Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia.
Icardi has established himself as one of the most consistent goalscorers in Serie A in recent years and has finally broken into the Argentina squad after last featuring for his country in 2013.
The 24-year-old still has four years remaining on his existing deal but now Inter are ready to reward their captain with a new contract that will include a €110m release clause to clubs outside of Italy.
Crucially, the report notes that the release clause will only be active until July 20 every year to ensure Inter have enough time to sign a replacement if he leaves.
Icardi has made a sublime start to the new campaign and is currently the joint goalscorer in the league, along with Juventus star Paulo Dybala on four goals.
Furthermore, of players that have scored at least 10 goals in Europe’s top five leagues since the start of last season, only Edinson Cavani (1 every 24 touches) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (every 29.8) require fewer touches per goal than Icardi (every 30.5).
