Wilshere requires surgery for fractured leg

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is due to undergo surgery on a hairline fracture in his left leg and could be out for up to three months, according to The Press Association.

Arsene Wenger confirmed last week that the England international has suffered a “little setback” in his rehabilitation from injury suffered in pre-season, but it has now turned out to be worse than expected.

Wilshere, 24, has endured a string of injuries throughout his career that have curtailed any potential he promised when he broke onto the scene as a teenager.

Since returning from a loan spell with Bolton in the 2009/10 Championship season, Wilshere has only managed to start just over half of Arsenal’s 195 Premier League games (40.5%).
