Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain exchange goalkeepers

Paris Saint-Germain have signed Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas in a player-plus-cash deal, the Ligue 1 champions have announced.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have reportedly agreed a €13.5m deal with Madrid and sent Alphonse Areola to the Spanish outfit on loan for the 2019/20 campaign.

Areola was expected to start PSG’s league encounter with Metz on Friday night but a deal was agreed prior to the match and the France international was benched.

The 26-year-old will now provide competition for places with Thibaut Courtois at Madrid, while Navas will have the chance to be an undisputed starter for one of Europe’s major teams.

Navas decided he wanted to leave Madrid following a five-year stint at the club after starting the campaign behind Courtois in the pecking order.

The 32-year-old, who has penned a four-year deal with PSG, has been heavily linked with a move away from Madrid for the majority of his time at the club and Zinedine Zidane has now reluctantly lost the Costa Rica international.

Areola has kept the most clean sheets in Ligue 1 since August 2017 (30).
