Roma plotting Benatia return

Roma are weighing up an offer that would see Bayern Munich defender Medhi Benatia return to the club in January, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Rudi Garcia’s side reportedly failed to bring the Morocco international back to the Stadio Olimpico over the summer and are now sounding out whether there is a fresh chance to land the centre-back when the transfer window reopens in January.

Benatia, 28, only left Roma last summer but has only made 16 league appearances for Bayern having seen his time with the Bundesliga champions savaged by injuries.

The Moroccan defender has only featured in two league games so far this season but has performed impressively in each. In fact, only four players have garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Benatia in the Bundesliga thus far (7.88).
