Manchester United boss Solskjaer to drop De Gea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to drop underperforming David de Gea for Manchester United's last two games of the season following his latest error-prone performance, claims The Sun.

There has been an alarming slump in De Gea's performances since the 2018 World Cup and his reputation plummeted further in United's FA Cup exit on Sunday.

De Gea ruined any chance of a United comeback against Chelsea when he let Mason Mount's tame effort slip through his fingers 60 seconds into the second half.

The 29-year-old should be entering his prime years but now there are increasing calls for Solskjaer to drop the Spain international as United's No.1 goalkeeper next season.

United have a huge decision to make about De Gea's future over the summer, with loan star Dean Henderson earning plenty of plaudits at Sheffield United this season.

However, it has now emerged Solskjaer is ready to sit De Gea out of United's final two games of the season and turn to understudy Sergio Romero.

United host relegation strugglers West Ham on Wednesday night before rounding off their domestic season away to top-four rivals Leicester and Solskjaer is running out of patience with De Gea's error-prone displays.

In fact, only Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka (5) has committed more errors directly leading to an opposition goal in the Premier League this season than De Gea (3).

De Gea is proving a headache United could really do without as they will not be able to sell the Spaniard over the summer.

After making De Gea the best-paid goalkeeper in the world at the start of the season, no club will be willing to match his wages.
