Liverpool to rival Manchester United for Jadon Sancho

Liverpool have told Borussia Dortmund they are interested in signing sought after prospect Jadon Sancho this summer, claims The Daily Mail.

Sancho has reportedly decided he wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season following three years at the club and intends to return to the Premier League.

Dortmund are not expected to hold Sancho against his wish and believe the 19-year-old is now worth well in excess of £100m.

The Bundesliga giants are now weighing up whether to sell Sancho before Euro 2020 or delay his departure in case he has a storming tournament for England and increases in value.

Chelsea were considered Manchester United's closest challengers for Sancho's signature but appear to have cooled their interest in the former Manchester City academy graduate after signing Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been desperate to sign Sancho since the end of last season and the Red Devils have reportedly already started ground work on a deal.

However, United will now face competition for Sancho's signature from Liverpool, who are expected to make some big transfers this summer.

With Sadio Mane and Mo Salah due to feature at the Africa Cup of Nations in January next year, Jurgen Klopp is keen to get world class alternatives in this summer to avoid a mid-season slump.

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is also on Liverpool's radar as a result but Sancho's arrival would be a club-record deal for the Premier League champions-elect.

United remain confident they are in the driving seat for Sancho's signature but missing out on Champions League football for next season could be a harder sell to the England international.

Sancho was the first player in Europe's top five leagues this season to reach double figures for both goals and assists and has remarkably played a direct hand in 25 goals in 19 league outings (12 goals, 13 assists).
