Manchester United look at former Liverpool target

Manchester United met with the representatives of Atletico Madrid outcast Thomas Lemar over a potential summer switch, reports ESPN.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are already planning for next season and are intent on making at least two big money signings to try and bridge the game to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and Moussa Dembele have all been linked with moves to Old Trafford but Lemar has now emerged as a potential target for the Red Devils.

Lemar is desperate to leave Atletico after struggling to make any impact under Diego Simeone since arriving from Monaco in the summer of 2018.

The France international came extremely close to joining Liverpool before eventually signing for Atletico and now United are pondering a move for the winger.

At the age of 24, there is still plenty of time for Lemar to rediscover the form he showed at Monaco and that is part of the thinking behind United's interest.

Atletico shelled out €60M (£52.7M) to sign Lemar two years ago and the Spanish side will struggle to recoup that fee given how much his stock has dropped.

Lemar has made 17 appearances in LaLiga this season but has started only nine matches in that time and is yet to score or assist.

Since joining Atletico, Lemar has only played a direct hand in six goals (three goals, three assists) in 48 league games.
