Former Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff is set to join Rennes on a free transfer on Tuesday, reports French publication 20 minutes.
Gourcuff, who has been a free agent since being released by Lyon at the end of last season, has reportedly agreed a one-year deal with Rennes.
The 29-year-old joined Lyon in 2010 as the best-paid player in France football and is alleged to have cost the Les Gones in the region of €60m (£43.9m) when factoring in his transfer fee, wages and bonuses during his five-year stay.
However, Lyon were never able to get the true return for the player they thought they had signed. Injuries savaged what were supposed to be the best years of Gourcuff’s career, restricting him to just 90 Ligue 1 appearances. He would only complete the full 90 minutes on 23 occasions from a possible 187 league games.
