West Ham United are interested in re-signing Glen Johnson from Stoke City this month, reports Sky Sports.
The Hammers are expected to be one of the busiest teams in the January transfer window as they look to strengthen at both ends of the pitch.
Slaven Bilic’s side have already failed in their attempts to bring Jermain Defoe back to the club in a bid to solve their problem in attack and now the east London club have set their sights on former Hammer Johnson.
Johnson, like Defoe, began his career with West Ham before being sold to Chelsea for £6m in July 2003. The former England international was incredibly linked with a move to Barcelona earlier in the season, but West Ham are the only team showing an interest in the right-back this month.
The 32-year-old has entered the final six months of his current deal with the Potters but has been used regularly this season at right-back and as a third centre-back in a back three Mark Hughes has deployed at times.
Johnson has been a great servant for Stoke during his two years at the club but Stoke could look to cash in on the veteran if West Ham make an offer they cannot refuse. During his time at the club, Stoke have fared better with Johnson in the team (36.1% win ratio) compared to when he hasn’t started in the Premier League, with goals scored per game (1.14) higher and goals conceded per game (1.36) lower with him in the team.
