Drinkwater faces three-match ban

The Football Association could ban Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater after an altercation with Watford’s Valon Behrami on Saturday, reports The Guardian.

Drinkwater, 26, appeared to elbow Behrami in the 67th minute of Leicester’s 2-1 defeat away to Watford, which brought about no action from referee Neil Swarbrick.

The England international is now running the risk of a three-match ban for violent conduct unless the altercation was seen by the match officials and noted in their post-match report.

Leicester are currently in a poor run of form having only won three of their last 11 matches in all competitions and the loss of Drinkwater for matches against Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Manchester City would be a real blow to Claudio Ranieri’s side.

Since the start of last season Drinkwater has won possession in the midfield third more times than any other player in the Premier League (257).
