Draxler not worried about Paris Saint-Germain summer arrivals

Julian Draxler knows he faces a huge task to be a success at Paris Saint-Germain but insists there is no reason to leave despite the club signing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe this summer.

The Germany international was heavily linked with a move away from PSG towards the end of the transfer window after Unai Emery’s side complete the two biggest transfers in the history of football.

Draxler only joined the Ligue 1 giants in January but is now expected to endure less playing time as a result of Neymar and Mbappe’s presence at the club.

Emery’s side have potentially committed more than £300m in signing Neymar and Mbappe over the summer, but Draxler is relishing the challenge of competing for places with his new teammates.

“I was really fired up for this match [Germany vs Norway], it was my first in a while,” Draxler told Kicker. “The club [PSG] has bought one of the best players in the world in Neymar, and one of the best talents in Kylian.

“That is no reason to leave, though. Those signings are part of such a club. Just like at other big European clubs. Bayern or Real Madrid have four, five, six players for positions up front, and that is why leaving was not an issue for me, and as far as I know also not for Paris.

“I am confident enough to rise to the competition and prevail in such a team. I am looking forward to getting to know the lads better on the pitch, and I believe we are in for one or the other spectacle.”

Draxler, who made an impressive start to life at PSG last season, has only managed 12 minutes of league action this term after arriving back late from the summer’s Confederations Cup.

Of players that have attempted at least 45 dribbles in Ligue 1 in 2017, only Marco Verratti (85.7%) and Stephane Sessegnon (80.3%) have a better success rate than Draxler (73.3%).
