Blues set to up offer for former striker

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is prepared to break the bank to sign former striker Romelu Lukaku, according to the Sunday Express.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the Belgium international for much of the summer, with Conte thought to be a big fan of the club’s former striker.

Reports over the weekend suggested Everton had rejected a £57m bid for Lukaku from Chelsea, but the west London side could now up that to £60m to test the Toffees’ resolve.

Everton have slapped a £75m price tag on Lukaku’s head, with the player netting 17 league goals last season, the fourth best return in England's top tier.

Chelsea remain confident they can re-sign the 23-year-old this summer and will hope to use any funds raised from the sale of Diego Costa back to Atletico Madrid.

The Spain international is eager to return to Madrid and while he won’t push for a move, is hopeful Chelsea and Atletico can strike a deal that would see him make the switch back to Atletico.
