Delph injured on City debut

Fabian Delph’s Manchester City career has got off to a nightmare start after he was stretchered off just 17 minutes into his debut against Real Madrid on Friday.

Delph, 25, hasn’t even been at the club longer than a week, but is already set for a spell on the sidelines with a suspected hamstring injury.

The extent of the injury is yet to be discovered, but given the nature of muscular injuries and his immediate reaction, it would suggest the diagnosis is not going to be good.

City signed the England international for £8m from Aston Villa last week looking to add much needed impetus and energy into a labouring midfield.

Delph was voted Villa’s player of the season for the last two campaigns and for good reason. Of players to have attempted more than 50 dribbles in the Premier League last season, only his City teammate Yaya Touré (83.6%) had a better success rate than Delph (82.4%).
