Celta Vigo winger Nolito has revealed he could have moved to England in the January transfer window.
Nolito, 29, has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months having been a regular performer for Celta Vigo in the last few years.
The Spain international was also tipped for a return to Barcelona but neither moves materialised, despite the fact he had offers in the winter window.
In December I had offers from England, China, Russia, Dubai… but I’m happy at Celta and I want to play at the Euros,” Nolito told Radio MARCA, via Marca. “The Celta president told me that he wouldn’t sell me. I said to him that’s fine by me."
“The president spoke with me in January and said that Barca would pay half for me now and the rest in June. He said that there was no way that he’d sell me. I told him that’s fine by me. If Barca pau my buy-out clause, they wouldn’t be able to say no, I’d have to go.”
Nolito has only recently returned to first-team action following a two-month injury lay-off and it is no surprise that Celta are unbeaten in the three matches he has featured. In fact, Celta have won half of the league matches Nolito has started in, compared to just 36.4% of those he hasn’t.
