Arsenal boss considering bid for World Cup finalist

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is planning a £25m move for World Cup finalist and Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida, reports the Sun.

Vida won a legion of admirers for his mature defensive displays in Russia, with a host of Premier League teams considering moves for the centre-back.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both been credited with an interest in Vida, while Arsenal are now weighing up a move for the defender.

Gunners boss Emery is supposedly less than impressed with the centre-back options at his disposal, despite the arrival of Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund.

Vida only moved to Besiktas at the turn of the year, joining from Dynamo Kyiv on a free transfer, with the Turkish side able to command a huge fee for the defender should they look to sell.

However, Arsenal need to sell before they can buy and the deal will only be sanctioned if they can sell one of Danny Welbeck or Shkodran Mustafi to raise the requisite funds to sign the 29-year-old.

The defender scored one and assisted another for Croatia at the 2018 World Cup, starting six of their seven matches as they progressed to the final before losing 4-2 to France.
