Kouyate’s red card overturned

West Ham United midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate has had the red card he picked up against Crystal Palace successfully overturned, the Football Association has announced.

Kouyate, 26, was shown a straight red card by Mark Clattenburg midway through the second half of West Ham’s 2-2 draw with Palace on Saturday.

The Hammers were leading 2-1 when the central midfielder was shown his marching orders before Dwight Gayle equalised for the Eagles eight minutes later.

However, West Ham have been successful in their appeal of the red card meaning Kouyate is free to face Arsenal at the weekend in a match of huge importance, as Slaven Bilic’s side look to get their top-four pursuit back on track.

This is the second time that Kouyate has had a red card overturned in the last two months the third time West Ham have been successful in appealing a red card this season.

Kouyate has only missed 12 matches since he joined West Ham at the start of the season, although the Hammers have a higher win ratio without him in the starting XI (50%) than they do with him (33.3%).
