Chelsea open contract talks with Brazilian

Chelsea have started contract talks with David Luiz about a new two-year deal, claims The Sun.

Luiz’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the current campaign but the Brazilian is back in favour at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old fell down the pecking order under Antonio Conte last season but Maurizio Sarri has reinstated the defender as his first choice centre-back this term.

Chelsea usually only hand one-year deals to players aged 30 and over but are in talks to reward Luiz with a new two-year contract.

Luiz is an integral part of the way Sarri wants Chelsea to play and they are willing to break their rules in order to help the Italian implement his style of play.

Only Jorginho (508) and Aymeric Laporte (463) have attempted more passes than Luiz in the Premier League this season (417).
