Chelsea eye audacious swoop for Bayern midfielder

Antonio Conte has made Arturo Vidal one of his top summer targets if he is confirmed as Guus Hiddink’s replacement at Chelsea, according to Calciomercato.

The Italy head coach is widely expected to replace Hiddink at the end of the season when his contract with the national team expires after the Euros in the summer.

Chelsea are expected to be extremely busy in the summer, with a major squad overhaul reportedly being planned by the board at Stamford Bridge following their startlingly poor season.

The Blues are unlikely to be able to offer prospective targets Champions League football next season, which may prove a big stumbling block for Conte in the summer.

However, despite the fact Chelsea are 10 points off the top four, they are reportedly lining up an audacious summer move for Bayern midfielder Vidal.

The Chile international has been in relatively good form for Bayern since making the switch from Juventus last summer and it would be surprising to see the 28-year-old give up his Bayern career after just 12 months even if he would see him reunite with Conte, with whom he was successful under at Juventus.

Vidal has been particularly effective in breaking down opposition attacks, which is emphasised when you consider he has made at least 18 more tackles than any other Bayern player in the Bundesliga this season (65).
