Kevin De Bruyne’s agent has revealed the Belgium midfielder had agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich ahead of his club-record move to Manchester City.
The 24-year-old was linked with a variety of clubs over the summer following a breathtaking campaign at Wolfsburg last season and has seemingly carried that form over into his maiden season with City following a staggering £55m move.
However, this season could have been completely different for De Bruyne had Bayern been able to make Wolfsburg asking price, after his agent revealed the Belgium international’s heart was on remaining in Germany.
“Kevin’s heart was beating for the Bundesliga, where he broke through at Bremen and became a star at Wolfsburg,” De Bruyne’s agent Patrick De Koster told SportFootMagazine.
“I’m convinced he would have played for Bayern if they had been able to pay the asking price.
“We reached a personal agreement with Bayern after two meetings. The deal has collapsed on the asking price.”
De Bruyne has registered at least five more assists than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues in the last two campaigns (28).
