Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in a deal worth up to €25m (£22m), reports German outlet BILD.
The Gunners have been extremely proactive in the transfer market since replacing Arsene Wenger with Unai Emery last month.
Arsenal have already signed defensive duo Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis, though an announcement for the latter will not be made until July.
Emery’s side are also on the verge of signing Sampdoria midfield ace Lucas Torreira and now they are closing in on a new goalkeeper.
Petr Cech’s form has declined at a tremendous rate in the last two seasons and Arsenal are in the market to find a long-term replacement for the veteran.
A release clause in Leno’s contract has expired but Leverkusen are still willing to let the 26-year-old leave in good faith.
Leno failed to make the Germany squad for the 2018 World Cup and it’s arguable that his arrival would not represent a significant upgrade on Cech.
In the last three Bundesliga campaigns, only Oliver Baumann (10) has committed more errors that have directly led to an opposition goal than Leno (9).
