Manchester United line up new contract offer for Barcelona target

Manchester United have held positive contract talks with star striker Marcus Rashford following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent appointment this week, reports the Daily Mail.

The Norwegian was handed a three-year deal on Thursday and long-term plans are now being put in place that will allow the squad to improve.

United have been linked with moves for young English trio Jadon Sancho, Declan Rice and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as they aim to launch a sustained title bid next season.

However, Rashford has been courted by Barcelona as they seek a replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez.

The uncertainty over the manager’s future saw Rashford delay talks with United over a new contract until a permanent boss was in place.

And with Solskjaer now at the helm, talks have begun to progress over a £150,000 a week deal for five years.

Rashford’s current contract runs until next summer, but United have an option to extend that by a further year, and the club are understandably eager to tie him down to a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.

Rashford, 21, has scored 11 and registered six assists in the league and Champions League this season, which included a vital penalty in their 3-1 win at PSG to secure a quarter-final berth.
