Manchester City consider shock move for Middlesbrough man

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is considering a shock move to reunite with Middlesbrough goalkeeper Victor Valdes in the summer, reports Bleacher Report.

Valdes has a release clause in his current deal that will allow the veteran goalkeeper to leave Middlesbrough at the end of the season as a free agent after the club were relegated to the Championship last weekend.

The 35-year-old has missed Middlesbrough’s last five matches with a rib injury but has performed well for Steve Agnew’s side and Guardiola is interested in the idea of bringing the former Spain international to the Etihad this summer.

Guardiola is on the market for a new goalkeeper following Claudio Bravo’s struggles this season and City have already been linked with moves for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and England international Jack Butland.

However, Valdes is now thought to be a surprise option for the City manager. Valdes played under Guardiola at Barcelona but it remains to be seen whether he is up to the task of playing for City given his underwhelming 12-month stint at Manchester United that came to an end last year.

Only Gaston Ramirez (3) has won more WhoScored Man of the Match awards in the league for Middlesbrough this season than Valdes (2).
