Chelsea will hand loan star Tammy Abraham a new contract that will double his salary in a bid to ward off interest in the striker in the summer, reports The London Evening Standard.
Abraham has spent the season on loan at Championship outfit Bristol City and has enjoyed a thoroughly impressive campaign for the Robins that would have put bigger clubs on alert.
The chances of Abraham succeeding at Chelsea despite his success this season appear slim given the club’s reluctance to turn to their fabled youth academy in the past but Antonio Conte’s side aren’t looking to let go of the youngster any time soon.
The 19-year-old’s existing Chelsea deal isn’t due to expire for another two years but Conte’s side are planning to extend that contract until the end of the 2021-22 campaign and the club are even considering doubling his current £25,000-a-week wages.
Abraham has scored 23 goals in the Championship this season and in doing so broke the record of ex-Fulham striker Moussa Dembele for the most goals scored by a teenager in English football’s second tier in the last 20 years.
