United target signs new five-deal

AS Monaco have announced Manchester United target Fabinho has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal keeping him at the Ligue 1 outfit until 2021.

Fabinho, 22, was heavily linked with a move to United over the summer as Jose Mourinho looked to sign another defender before the transfer window closed.

The Brazil international had three years left to run on his previous deal but a new long-term contract would appear to scupper United’s pursuit, or increase the price at the very least.

“I’m very happy to be extending my contract with AS Monaco, as this is the club that has enabled me to reach my potential at the highest level for several reasons, Fabinho told Monaco’s official website.

“It’s also introduced me to the Champions League, and it’s hugely pleasing to be able to take part in that competition again this year, with a very fine AS Monaco side. I have developed a lot since arriving at the club. Today is a very special day for me.”
