Liverpool sign Olympiacos defender Tsimikas

Liverpool have announced the arrival of Olympiacos left-back Kostas Tsimikas in a deal worth £11.75m.

Tsimikas, who has spent the last five years with Olympiacos, has put pen to paper on a long-term deal reportedly worth £50,000-a-week.

Liverpool turned their attention to Tsimikas after talks with Norwich collapsed over left-back Jamal Lewis.

Jurgen Klopp's side had a £10m bid for the Northern Ireland international rejected and refused to match Norwich's £20m valuation.

Tsimikas has been signed primarily as cover for Andrew Robertson for next season, a problem Liverpool have been keen to address for a while.

The 24-year-old finished Olympaicos' 2019/20 European campaign as the club's best WhoScored rated player (7.17 rating), while no defender completed more dribbles than the Greece international (14) in the group stage of the Champions League.

"I’m very happy, I’m very proud to be here. For me, [it’s] the biggest club in the world. It’s an honour to be here and I will give my best," Tsimikas told Liverpool's official website.

"The league here, I like a lot. I watch it on the TV and it was always one dream I had from when I was a kid to come to play in this league and to come through.

"With a lot of work and focus on what I do and what the coach wants, and every day working hard in training, I can be on the highest level.

"[I want] to achieve [our] goals. To win the league again and also to win the Champions League."
