Olivier Giroud has barely made an impact since joining Chelsea from Arsenal over 12 months ago but is keen to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge, claims The Sun.
Chelsea signed Giroud in January 2017 during Antonio Conte’s time at the club but has dropped down the pecking order since Maurizio Sarri took charge last summer.
Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata were preferred over Giroud in attack at the start of the season before Chelsea signed Gonzalo Higuain last month.
Giroud scored his fifth Europa League goal of the season in Thursday’s 2-1 win away to Malmo and hopes to be rewarded with a new contract.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but Chelsea have an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
Giroud is free to discuss a Bosman transfer with foreign clubs at the moment but is looking to earn a new deal with the Premier League outfit.
Chelsea typically do not hand out new deals to players the wrong side of 30 and the best Giroud could realistically hope for is a one-year extension.
Giroud has scored one goal from 19 Premier League appearances this season, though 13 of those have been substitute appearances.
In the last three Premier League campaigns, Giroud has scored at least six more goals as any other player as a substitute (13).
