Barton returns to Burnley

Burnley have announced they have re-signed Joey Barton on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Barton, 34, has been training with Sean Dyche’s side since November after being released from Rangers after less than six months with the Scottish giants.

The former Newcastle midfielder helped Burnley into the Premier League last season before making the surprise decision to leave for Rangers in the summer, but has now returned and will be officially allowed to play when the transfer window opens in January.

Barton returns to Burnley

Barton completed at least 19 more tackles than any other Burnley player in the Championship last season (111). Not only that, but only Matthew Lowton (7.31) finished last season with a higher WhoScored rating for Burnley in the Championship than Barton (7.30).
