Guardiola confident Sane will sign new Manchester City deal

Pep Guardiola has allayed fears Manchester City are struggling to convince Leroy Sane to sign a new contract and is confident talks are progressing well.

Sane’s current deal isn’t due to expire until the summer of 2021 but City are keen to secure his long-term future.

Last season’s PFA Young Player of the Season endured a difficult start to the current campaign but has rediscovered his best form in recent weeks.

City have already convinced Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne to sign new long-term deals this year and Guardiola hopes Sane will be next to sign fresh terms.

“I don’t have any info about there being trouble with Leroy, the last info I had was that it [the contract talks] is going well but the process is not one day – Raheem Sterling [and his new deal], it was not one day,” The Daily Telegraph quote Guardiola as saying.

“Except Kevin De Bruyne, it was in one or two days, the other ones sometimes take longer but hopefully he can stay here for many, many years.”

Guardiola confident Sane will sign new Manchester City deal

Sane has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth for City this season following the arrival of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester over the summer.

The 22-year-old has started seven league games and made a further five appearances from the bench this season.

Despite lacking continuity on the pitch, Sane has still weighed in with five goals and five assists in that time.

In fact, when factoring in starts alone this season, only Lionel Messi (8.56) has a higher WhoScored rating than Sane (8.47) in Europe’s top five leagues (5+ starts).
