Chelsea have signed Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic in a deal worth £57.6m, the Bundesliga side have confirmed.
Pulisic will spend the rest of the season on loan at Dortmund before moving to Chelsea in the summer.
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best prospects in European football but has fallen out of favour at Dortmund this season.
Pulisic only had 18 months left to run on his current Dortmund deal and the German side have cashed in while they can still demand maximum value.
Dortmund’s priority was to extend Pulisic’s contract but they couldn’t agree terms with the United States international.
“It was always Christian’s dream to play in the Premier League,” Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc told the club’s official website.
“That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract.
“Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.”
Manchester United and Liverpool have both been heavily linked with a move for Pulisic in the past but have now missed to their Premier League rivals.
Despite only starting five league matches this season, no player has completed more dribbles in the Bundesliga than Pulisic since August 2017 (96).
They paid through the nose for a guy who has little end product. The dribbles are nice, but you win by scoring goals and he doesn't shoot or create chances. Him being American, his commercial potential is obviously intriguing, but even Americans would rather watch a genuine star rather than a star for being American.
