Van Dijk to sign most lucrative deal in Liverpool's history

Virgil van Dijk is on the brink of penning a new long-term Liverpool deal worth £220,000-a-week, claims The Sun.

Van Dijk still has three years left to run on his current £180,000-a-week contract but the Reds want to reward the 28-year-old for developing into the best centre-back in the world.

The Netherlands international has been immense for Liverpool ever since he arrived in a £75m deal from Southampton in 2018.

Liverpool have moved quickly to secure Van Dijk's future before the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid start to show interest.

The proposed terms in Van Dijk's new five-year deal will make the towering defender the best-paid player in Liverpool's history.

Mo Salah is currently the club's top earner on £200,000-a-week but Van Dijk's contract will eclispe that sum.

Van Dijk hasn't missed a minute of league action this season, as Liverpool close in on their first league title in 30 years.

The Dutchman is the seven top rated player in the Premier League this season (7.40) and overall the best rated centre-back in the division since he joined Liverpool (7.41).
