Inter are ready to hand Jerome Boateng a route out of Bayern Munich in January if the defender fails to reclaim his place in the team under Carlo Ancelotti, claims Tuttomercato, via Football Italia.
Boateng has endured a turbulent 12 months since Ancelotti was made Pep Guardiola’s successor and Inter reportedly even tested the waters with an ambitious move on deadline day this summer.
The Germany international established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe after joining Bayern from Manchester City in 2011, but has almost dropped off the radar completely since the start of last season.
Much of that has not been helped by injuries and Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge even warned the defender to curb his off-field ventures for good back in November after a poor performance in the Champions League.
The 29-year-old is yet to feature for Bayern this season and Inter technical coordinator is prepared to put Boateng’s name forward to the club’s owners when he meets up with them to discuss Inter’s transfer strategy for the January window.
Inter were determined to sign a new centre-back in the summer, but failed with moves for Premier League duo Shkodran Mustafi and Eliaquim Mangala towards the end of the window.
Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is another January target for the Serie A giants, as the Uruguay international will only have six months remaining on his contract and will be free to speak with foreign clubs about a Bosman transfer.
Since the start of last season, Bayern’s win rate has been marginally better in the league without Boateng in the starting XI (76.9%), but crucially their defensive record has been far better in that time.
In fact, they concede 1.1 goals per game on average with the German in the starting XI compared to just 0.46 without him in that period.
